Reading at Grade Level is a key to future success. One of the largest factors in reading success is having books in the home. To that end, the McDonough County United Way has created the Imagination Book Club. This program provides books (free of charge) to local children who may not have sufficient reading material at home. We partner with the McDonough County Housing Authority, Wee Care Day Care, and the Reading Intervention programs at Lincoln School (Macomb) and West Prairie South (Colchester), distributing over 400 books each month!
Purchasing through a bulk distributor, we are able to get brand new, high quality books for $.35 to $2 each. Your donation goes very far with the Imagination Book Club! We also accept very gently loved used books, if you would like to donate books your children have outgrown.
The Imagination Book Club continues to grow and reach more children. You can make a monetary donation by clicking the DONATE button above, or contacting the United Way office at 309-837-9180. We are happy to come pick up your gently loved used children’s books (within McDonough County). Books must be in great shape to be accepted.
Partnering with Macomb Schools, the McDonough County United Way provides backpacks, filled with comfort items (such as blanket, stuffed animal, books, toothbrush, etc) for children who are displaced due to serious domestic issues and may have nothing but the clothing they are wearing.
In addition to helping our partner agencies fulfill their missions, McDonough County United Way is dedicated to various community outreach programs
to ensure the health, education, and financial stability of our community and all its citizens.
